Abstract:
The goal of this research project is to address the issue of low back problem in police officers by offering an ergonomic duty belt design that is more comfortable to work with while performing seated occupational tasks. For this purpose, I developed silicone padding for the current duty belt and rearranged the items on the duty belt. To test the effect of this change on human subjects I captured, processed, and analyzed 3D motion data, recorded trunk muscle activity, and measured perceptions regarding the current duty belt and the prototype. Evaluation and improvement of this prototype would have not been possible without the biomechanical assessment and subjective scales. I have also found simple solutions to address male and female duty belt issues separately.
