Do Gender Difference and Culture Exacerbate or Mitigate Benign Envy?
This study examined whether gender difference and cultural difference interfere with benign envy. The experiment used a 2 (gender difference type: envious individuals and envy targets are of the same sex/envious individuals and envy targets are of the opposite sex) X 2 (Country: United States/Singapore) factorial design. The results showed a significant main effect for gender difference, and there’s no significant interaction between gender difference and cultural difference. Overall, when participant’s gender is opposite to envy target’s gender, he or she experienced more benign envy.
